2015 PDK International Regional Board Member Election Results

The 2015 election has concluded. Congratulations to Lisa Stooksberry (Region E) and Melissa Nixon (Region F) who will serve on the PDK International board from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018.

Region E

Stooksberry-WebLisa Stooksberry is Senior Vice President for Standards and Assessment at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. In this position, she oversees development and support of the National Board’s teaching standards and assessments in 25 certificate areas. She also oversees programs and products designed to support the development and improvement of teaching that is based on National Board’s standards, including a project currently funded by the U.S. Department of Education as part of its Investing in Innovation (i3) program.

Stooksberry spent nearly a decade teaching students in fifth and sixth grades then later joined the faculty at Mississippi State University (MSU). While at MSU, she collaborated with a National Board Certified Teacher to develop and pilot a master’s degree program for rural teachers based on National Board standards and assessments. Prior to joining the National Board in 2008, Stooksberry served as director of programs at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), where extensive partnership work with the National Council on Accreditation of Teacher Education and with the Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) have contributed to her work at the National Board. An interest in teacher dispositions led to her publications on the intellectual, cultural, and moral domains of teaching. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of North Alabama and University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.

Region F

Nixon_Melissa-for-webDr. Melissa Nixon is a 20-year veteran in education. She has a wide variety of experiences, including having served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal in North Carolina. Currently, she serves as the Director of Title I in the third largest district in North Carolina, providing oversight to the district’s $35 million Title I budget. Dr. Nixon offers the following additional experiences and accomplishments as a foundation and commitment to service on the PDK International Board of Directors:

  • Current president of North Carolina’s chapter of Phi Delta Kappa
  • Adjunct professor at High Point University, teaching Diversity in Education and Developing Leaders in 21st-Century Schools
  • Digital Leadership Coach for the Northeast Leadership Academy at NC State University
  • Representative for Region 5 of North Carolina Association of Compensatory Educators
  • Former treasurer and board member of PDK North Carolina chapter
  • 2013 PDK Emerging Leader
  • 2014 NC Title I Forum co-presenter
  • 2014 Future Educators Association National Conference co-presenter
  • Co-founder of EdCamp Elon
  • Published author in Principal magazine (January 2014, March 2014)
